While I’m typing this, Halima Aden is 20 years old. She was born in Kakuma, a refugee camp in Kenya. She came to the United States at age 7 with her family. They settled in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
She said in an interview that she loved high school. Her classmates voted for her as their school prom and homecoming queen.
2016: Halima is the first contestant in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant to wear a Hijab and a Burkini.
2016: IMG Models which represents the likes of Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, and Chanel Iman signed with Halima.
June 2017: She became the first hijab-wearing model on the cover of Vogue Arabia
July 2017: She became the first hijab-wearing model on an Allure cover.

“Be confident, be comfortable with who you are, a lot of the time we kind of underestimate ourselves but the world is listening and if you give it a try you can accomplish everything.”
“Tomorrow could be bright, you don’t know where life is gonna take you.”
She said she couldn’t pick up a magazine, flip through the pages and find somebody wearing a hijab or somebody that looks like her. She is happy to say that she covered nine different magazines from Vogue to Allure to Glamour. Now little girls are seeing somebody who looks like them in magazines.
Moreover, in her opinion, nowadays so many girls get signed, enter fashion and they’re not afraid to wear the hijab, they‘re not afraid to ask for privacy and they’re not afraid to be different.
